Papertrey Ink Framed Out Birthday Cards

I've got two  cards to share with you today.  They're actually different takes of the same card.   One uses 5 colors and the other 3.   The card revolves around 4 frames that have elements of these colors.   Besides the colors, the other unifying theme is stars.    I used mostly Papertrey Ink (PTI) colors and inks and some Stampin UP colors.  I've found that many items between the companies coordinate.   I used PTI's Framed Out #1 and Framed Out #2 stamp sets with the coordinating die for Framed Out #2 and the star borders dies.

If you'd like more details, you can watch me create this card on youtube (user name is irvinehouse)

I hope you have a wonderful weekend, and hopefully I'll see you next week with a new project.

Up, Up, & Away card

If you watched my haul video March 2012 Papertrey Ink Haul Video, you will know that I've been coveting the Papertrey Ink stamp set Up, Up & Away for a while.  It was the first stamp set I broke out to play with.   And this is my first creation.   I really love PTI's sentiments.   They are fun to combine.   The outside sentiment came from Pond Life ( a $5 stamp set with great sentiments).   And the inside one came from Up, Up, and away.

It is a fun set to play with.   I am looking forward to making more airballoons but coloring them.   And the sentiments are awesome and make this set very versatile.   I have so many more ideas for this set and I can't wait to play with it some more.  But then, I also have all these other new sets calling to me!!  LOL!   Such the difficult life of a crafter :)

If you'd like to see how I made this card, you can watch this video.  ( Oh boy, I can't believe the image youtube captured is of my dental appointment reminder card.   I quickly grabbed this contrasting paper so I could see to stamp on some white cardstock.  Ugghh.  I am making a note to have dark cardstock on hand at my filming station next time!!!  If you don't see the black postcard with the smiling tooth, you'll know I've succesfully changed the image on youtube!!)

Hope you have an awesome day, I"ll see you next time!!

Two cards featuring PTI Everyday Button Bits

This is another posting of previous Youtube videos.   Shortly, I'll be posting new content.   Until then....

I really like how buttons can add to a card when used the right way, but for some reason I have a really hard time using buttons.  They look so hodgepodge, last minute addition when I use them on cards.   So, I decided Papertrey Ink's Everyday button bits would help me get going with buttons.   And there were several images I really liked, like the chickadee one.   Anyway, this set is really great for creating great looking quick cards with just one layer.   These cards in the videos aren't the quickies that you can do with this set, but they are fun and I really like how they turned out.

Cricut Create A Critter Valentine

In this video I use my gypsy to create a Valentine card, featuring the Create A Critter Cartridge.   You'll see me use the "hide" feature to make the cricut cut only the parts I want it to cut (so I can try out my new Peachy Keen face stamps).   And you'll see how I lay out my cuts into different quadrants for the different colors of cardstock I plan to use.   So, even if you don't own this particular cartridge or the Peachy Keen stamps, I hope you pick up a few tips on using your gypsy and cricut.

Scallop Flower Birthday Card

Today, I thought I'd show you how to make the scalloped flower birthday card I posted earlier. This is almost like the card I showed in my last post, except I used last year's in colors. I really like this card. It's surprising how quick it is. These flowers aren't just great for cards, but you can use them to decorate a small gift box or gift bag.

I'll see you tomorrow with something new :)

What to do with ribbon scraps!

Hey, everyone!!

A while ago, I saw on Michelle Wooderson's blog a neat idea for making ribbon strips to use up ribbon scraps. Today, I finally decided to give it a try. In the video, I used a rotary cutter, because that was what Michelle had used. But I was pleased to discover the the Stampin UP craft scissors had no trouble cutting through the layers of cardstock, sticky tape and ribbon. In the video, I show you both methods, so don't freak out when you see me with the rotary cutter and start thinking that you'll never be able to make ribbon strips. I show you the scissor method right afterwards. If you have SU paper and craft scissors you'll have no problem at all.

So, whatever you do---don't throw out those ribbon scraps!!

I had to edit down this video too! I don't know what is with that!!

Part of what I edited out was blooper worthy! Someday I'll collect all those and post a blooper video. Also, at the beginning of this video, I say I'm going to make an Easter card. Well, it ended up being just a general card.

Thank Goodness For Punches!!!

Punches have saved me on more than one stamping occassion. They got me through several baby showers when I didn't own a baby stamp set!! And today they helped me create a St. Patrick's Day card without a St. Patrick's Day stamp set. Now, using the hearts to make a shamrock isn't my creation. I've been it around on blogs for a couple of years. It was filed away in my brain for a day like today!

Now, making my own colored glitter might be my own creation, I some other stamper has thought about this by now, I'm sure??? I dunno. I was originally going for a mixture of different green glitters, but as you'll see in the video I accidentally dropped TWO drops of reinker instead of one into my glitter--so it all ended up the same color. Anyway, it still worked out great.

I had to cut over 3 minutes from the video, so you might notice some chopiness. I hope you stil enjoy it :)

Vintage Vogue Cracked Glass

I decided to do the Vintage Vogue and the cracked glass technique together. I hadn't done this technique since last summer with the 24-7 stampset. It's a fun technique.

When you crack your "glass" you can get different results. The colder your paper and the quicker you crack your glass, the deeper the crackers. The warmer your paper and the slower you crack, the more subtle the cracks. Error on the side of being subtle. You can always stick it back in the freezer and recrack it. If I had to do it over again, I would have gone slowly and allowed the card to warm up a bit. (It had been in the freezer for a while because I got sidetracked on the computer).

In the video I do 4 coats of Versamark and Glassy Glaze embossing powder, but you can probably do 2-3 if you get good coverage. You want your embossing to create a shiny smooth surface without dimples. Also, I say to keep the card in the freezer for 20-30 minutes. 15-20 will probably do you. My card was curled up it was sooo cold--LOL!!

Hope you enjoy the video.

ETA: Oh boy!! I edited this video twice and both times have made a mess of it. Thank you, anonymous, for letting me know that the embossing part got cut from the video. I apologize to everyone for that. I'm editing it again and putting it up on youtube when I'm through :).

Chalkboard Technique with Vintage Vogue

I love the chalkboard technique. You can see in my history where I used it with the set Inspired by Nature. I think it turned out great with the Vintage Vogue stamp set too! It's much more stunning in person. I wish you could see it in real life! My daughter even liked this card!!

Here is how you do this technique.

Embossed Ribbon

I've been hearing about embossed ribbon and I finally decided to give it a try. It's so simple and definitely has a WOW! effect!!! I will for sure be using this technique a lot!

I wanted to break out the set Three Little Words which I got for free for Sale-a-bration. I've been admiring this set since it came out and I'm so glad I got it. I didn't do anything fancy with it today--just a simple 5 minutes and you're out the door card.

I wanted something simple today and this fit the bill!

Nature's Nest masculine birthday card

This is a birthday card I made with the Nature's Nest set. I love this set!! I'm partial to nature stamps anyway. Unfortunately, I haven't had played with this set enough. I hope you don't mind that I took a break from the Occassions mini catalog to play with this set. I just love it!!

Here is a video tutorial for how to make this card. It's a bit choppy because I had to edit 4 min 30 seconds out of the video. Anyway, I hope this helps you figure out how to copy my card.

Mother's Day Card with paper flowers

Here is a simple little card for Mother's Day.

Tuesday, February 2, 2010

Do you know what today is?

It's Ground Hog's Day!!! And it also is my daughter's birthday!! She used to be upset that her birthday was Ground Hog's Day. She doesn't care anymore, but when she was little, she did! LOL! Of course, her grandpa loved to get her going--he would call her on her birthday when she was about 3 and ask her if she knew what day it was--Ground Hog's Day; she'd vehemently tell him, "No, it's MY birthday!!" LOL!

Well, today is my daughter's 17th birthday. So, I got up early (for me :) this morning and made her a card. I brought you on the journey :) I'm editing the video now and will post it later :)

Conversation Hearts Treat Holder video tutorial

Before I talk about this project. I need to tell you something!!

It's snowing!!! It's snowing!!! I haven't seen snow like this in YEARS!!! I grew up in Ohio, but early in our marriage we moved south. I **DO** love the south!! And I really don't like snow, but it's so pretty when it falls. I like seeing the pristine snow from inside a warm house :)

One year we had about a half inch of snow and my daughter managed to roll three snowballs, taking up every inch of snow in our yard, and made a snowman with it. My picture shows a snowman on green grass!! LOL!

We've got a LOT of snow!! I think we're going to get over 6 inches!! My daughter is excited!!! I called my son who is college in Ohio--he wasn't as impressed (as he's been living with snow all winter! LOL!)

Anyway, here is a video tutorial for you! I got these treats at Dollar Tree. They had them in 4 packs for $1. So this treat is economical and quick!!

Until tomorrow--happy stamping!!

Explosion Box tutorials

These are the tutorials that describe how I decorated the inside of my box and the outside. The videos have all the measurements, products used, etc. I also discuss choosing pictures etc. I hope this helps you create an explosion box of your own. Next week I should have the cost of offering this as a kit and I will post that information on my blog.

How to make the structure of the Explosion Box

Here is the video for how to make the structure of the explosion box I showed you yesterday. If you have any questions, please ask. This is the first video I've tried to do of something that is very detailed, so I might not have explained it well enough. I'd be happy to answer any questions. I hope you enjoy making these. They're really fun!

I'm working on editing and uploading the instructions for the inside of the box. I hope to have all those uploaded tomorrow :)
